Nigerian Protesters Demand Real-Time Election Result Transmission at National Assembly

Tension rose at the Nigerian National Assembly in Abuja as protesters demanded the inclusion of real-time electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act amendment process. Demonstrators, including members of opposition parties and civil society organizations, gathered at the main entrance of the complex, insisting on this provision.

The protest, spearheaded by a coalition of civil society groups and women's organizations, accused lawmakers of attempting to dilute electoral reforms. Notable activist Omoyele Sowore mobilized the opposition movement to support the protest, emphasizing the importance of transparent elections.

Security forces, including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were deployed to maintain order.
