Bauchi Court Allows PRP to Proceed with Governorship Primary

The Bauchi State High Court No. 2 has ruled that the People's Redemption Party (PRP) is permitted to conduct its governorship primary election, effectively setting aside an interim injunction that had previously restrained the party. The ruling was made by Justice Kunaza N.

Hamidu on May 25, 2026, in response to a suit filed by Barr. Idre Safiyanu Gambo against the PRP and Senator Shehu Buba Umar, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court found sufficient grounds to grant the application to vacate the earlier order, which had been issued on May 25, 2026. Justice Hamidu ordered that all parties involved must serve their processes within two days of receiving the court's decision.

The matter has been adjourned until June 4, 2026, for a hearing on the motion notice. The ruling has been commended by legal representatives, emphasizing the judiciary's commitment to due process and the rule of law.
