Qatar's Assim Madibo Banned for Causing Kone's Injury

Assim Madibo, a midfielder for Qatar, has been handed a five-match ban by FIFA's disciplinary committee following a serious foul that resulted in Ismael Kone of Canada suffering a broken leg during Qatar's 6-0 defeat last Thursday. Madibo, aged 29, was sent off during the match, which led to Kone sustaining fractures to the tibia and fibula in his lower left leg.

As a result of the injury, Kone, a 24-year-old player for Italian side Sassuolo, will miss the remainder of the tournament. Following the incident, Canada lost 2-1 to Switzerland in their final group game, which allowed them to qualify for the last 32 as group runners-up.

Qatar, on the other hand, finished bottom of Group B with just one point after losing 3-1 to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
