Real Madrid Completes Cucurella Transfer from Chelsea for €55m

Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella has joined Real Madrid on a six-year deal after the club reached agreement with Chelsea.
Marc Cucurella, a 27-year-old Spanish left-back, has completed his transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid. The deal is valued at €55 million, and the defender committed to a contract through June 2032.
Under newly appointed coach José Mourinho, the club is undertaking a significant defensive reconstruction effort. Before joining Chelsea in 2022, Cucurella came through Barcelona's academy and spent time at Brighton.
The defender featured for Spain during the World Cup and holds experience across both the Champions League and Premier League competitions. Chelsea's recent domestic campaign proved disappointing, finishing 10th in the league last season, which prompted management to make adjustments.
Florentino Pérez, reelected as Real Madrid president in early June, has prioritized bolstering the squad after two seasons without winning a major title. Cucurella joins a series of defensive additions being pursued by the club.
Other targets have reportedly included Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool, alongside discussions about potential midfield reinforcements. At Chelsea, vice-captain Enzo Fernández is seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge with interest in joining Real Madrid, where he could reunite with Cucurella at the Bernabéu.
The Blues have valued the midfielder at £120 million, though it remains uncertain whether Real Madrid will pursue this additional transfer based on current information.
