Wike Backs Tinubu for 2027, Advocates Southern Presidency

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of River State, articulated his support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections and his continued backing for Tinubu's re-election in 2027 during an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time. Wike emphasized that his support stems from his belief that the presidency should remain in the South for an equal eight years following the northern leadership of late Muhammadu Buhari.

He stated, “It would not be fair if the situation goes back to the North.” Wike asserted that only President Tinubu could question his political decisions, distancing himself from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and clarifying that his support does not extend to APC candidates in other elections. He noted that he had never sought to align with the APC Governors’ Forum and maintained that his commitment to Tinubu's second-term bid is based on personal conviction regarding the President's performance.
