Governors Urge NNDC to Reform for Economic Revival

During a two-day retreat in Abuja, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, the chairman of the Northern State Governors Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, called for a comprehensive overhaul of the Northern Nigeria Development Company (NNDC). He warned that the region risks becoming irrelevant if it does not adapt to current economic realities.

Yahaya stressed the importance of NNDC as a vital player in the North's economic future, highlighting challenges such as rising unemployment, economic hardship, and declining investor confidence. He urged the company to embrace bold reform strategies and focus on becoming a profit-driven enterprise capable of creating jobs.

The retreat included discussions led by various speakers, including Malam Tanimu Yakubu and Moham Hayatu Deen, who emphasized the need for tough strategic decisions to ensure long-term relevance and impact. The governors collectively insisted that economic performance and security are interconnected, advocating for the expansion of job opportunities to strengthen economic inclusion.
