GPF Positions for Political Influence in Adamawa 2027

The Gongola Peoples Forum (GPF) is emerging as a formidable socio-cultural force in Adamawa State, aiming to unify various ethnic groups ahead of the 2027 governorship elections. The GPF, led by Engr Marku Natina Gundiri, emphasizes grassroots mobilization over financial inducements, asserting that it will produce the next governor without spending money.

The forum's influence is bolstered by notable figures such as Lt Gen Haladu Hananiya and other prominent politicians and community leaders. A significant cultural event, the Grand Cultural Fiesta held in Yola in December 2025, celebrated the creation of seven new chiefdoms, marking a step towards balanced representation for indigenous communities.

The GPF claims to represent 90% of the non-Fulani communities in Adamawa, which includes various ethnic groups primarily engaged in agriculture. With a population estimate of approximately 4.9 million and a growing voter registration base, the GPF is strategically mobilizing support across the state's 21 local government areas, particularly in rural zones.
