Nigerian Red Cross Urges Voluntary Blood Donations

Mr. Oluyemisi Adetayo, President of the Nigerian Red Cross (NRC), called for increased voluntary blood donations during a blood donation drive and health check event in Abuja.

The initiative aims to improve the availability of emergency blood supplies nationwide, as Nigeria currently faces a deficit of 3,000 liters. Adetayo emphasized the importance of prioritizing human life above ethnic and religious divisions, stating that anyone in need of blood is entitled to it, regardless of their background.

He warned that the organization will monitor blood storage and distribution to ensure safety and proper use. Ms.

Omotayo Ottun highlighted the importance of medical screening for donors and clarified eligibility misconceptions, noting that women can donate blood every four months while men can do so every three months. Ms.
