Tinubu Celebrated as Catholic Community's Best Friend

Reno Omokri, the ambassador-designate of Nigeria, has characterized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the best friend of the Catholic community in Nigeria. He emphasized that Tinubu is the only Nigerian president to attend a papal inauguration, specifically referencing his presence at the inauguration Mass of Pope Leo XIV on May 18, 2025, in St Peter’s Square, Vatican City.

Omokri noted that since Nigeria's independence on October 1, 1960, no other Nigerian leader has honored a Pontiff at such an event. He highlighted his family's long-standing Catholic heritage, claiming it as the oldest Catholic family in Nigeria, and asserted that Tinubu's actions demonstrate a commitment to fostering peaceful religious coexistence and mutual prosperity for all Nigerians.

Omokri stated that Tinubu has extended a "right hand of fellowship" to the Roman Catholic Community, positioning him as a significant ally for the Church in Nigeria.
