Tinubu Anticipates Pope Leo XIV's Visit to Nigeria

On Saturday, President Bola Tinubu stated his eagerness to receive Pope Leo XIV in Nigeria, highlighting the need for spiritual engagement as millions worldwide seek leadership for peace. This declaration was made during a meeting with Archbishop Paul R.

Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States at the Holy See, at Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the Holy See, a milestone that Tinubu noted as particularly significant due to Nigeria's strategic importance to the global Catholic Church.

Tinubu acknowledged the Catholic Church's role in education and humanitarian efforts in Nigeria and reiterated his administration's commitment to promoting peace and religious harmony. Archbishop Gallagher conveyed Pope Leo XIV's appreciation for Tinubu's presence and expressed hopes for continued collaboration between the Nigerian government and the Catholic Church.

The meeting also included discussions on Nigeria's security situation and the government's efforts to combat terrorism and radicalization.
