Renowned Literary Scholar Biodun Jeyifo Dies at 80, Nigerian Academy Announces

Renowned literary scholar and public intellectual, Professor Emeritus Biodun Jeyifo, passed away at the age of 80 due to complications related to renal failure. The Nigerian Academy, through a letter from Professor Andrew Haruna, announced his death.

Jeyifo, a world-renowned literary critic and Marxist scholar, died just a month after celebrating his 80th birthday on January 5. He had a distinguished career in academia, holding dual appointments at Cornell and Harvard University.

A major symposium was organized in Lagos at the Wole Soyinka Centre to honor his 80th birthday on January 5th.
