Periodontologists Discuss AI's Role in Dental Care

Joseph Amenaghawon attended the 5th Biennial Scientific Conference organized by the Periodontologist Association of Nigeria at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja on February 25. The conference's theme, "Beyond: Probing Artificial Intelligence and Digital Tools in Periodontology," was chaired by Oluseun Onigbind, Global Director of Budgit Foundation.

Amenaghawon shared his journey from studying dental surgery at the University of Ibadan to engaging with the profession again after years of separation. The conference featured discussions on the impact of artificial intelligence in enhancing periodontic services, especially in underserved communities.

Presentations included a study on how religious beliefs can hinder oral health care. The event underscored the urgent need for 24-hour access to critical healthcare tools and the commitment of Nigerian periodontologists to ensure quality care.

A notable reunion occurred when Amenaghawon met his former classmate, Kehind Umeizudik, highlighting the personal connections formed in the field.
