NDDC Summit Focuses on Legal Reforms for Sustainability

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) convened a law development summit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, focusing on the intersection of law and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region. Dr.

Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, and Mr. Chiedu Ebi, Chairman of the NDDC Governing Board, highlighted the urgent need for legal reforms to address environmental degradation caused by extractive activities.

The summit aimed to explore existing legal frameworks and propose regulatory reforms tailored to the region's unique challenges. Ogbuku noted that sustainable development extends beyond physical infrastructure to include economic growth and social inclusion.

He acknowledged that the current administration inherited significant challenges requiring restructuring and modernization. The summit also addressed funding constraints and the need for innovative legal solutions to facilitate development efforts.

Keynote speaker Henri Odein Aju presented insights on the role of law in driving sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
