Reps Committee Condemns World Bank's Refinery Report

The House of Representatives committee concluded its retreat in Owerri, where it praised Alhaji Aliko Dangote for his refinery, describing it as a national economic treasure crucial for Nigeria's future energy security. The committee formally condemned a World Bank report that claimed imported products were twelve percent cheaper than those from Dangote's refinery, asserting that the report contradicted Nigeria's national economic interests.

They declared the World Bank officials as persona non grata and demanded a public retraction and written apology within 30 days. Furthermore, the committee called for the investigation and potential arrest of World Bank staff involved in the report, citing their complicity in undermining Nigeria's domestic refining sector.

Ikenga Ugochinyer Ikeagwuonu, expressed concerns over the failure to ensure a consistent supply of crude oil feedstock to indigenous refineries and indicated plans to legislate on these issues. They also noted the advancement of six legislative priorities related to crude price oversight and revenue protection.
