Reps and NIMASA Collaborate on 2026 Budget Accountability

The Nigerian House of Representatives, through its Committee on Maritime Safety, has partnered with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to improve service delivery. During a session on the agency's 2026 budget proposal, chaired by Khadija Abba Ibrahim, lawmakers stressed the importance of establishing clear performance benchmarks and enforcing stricter accountability standards.

The proposed budget includes a gross revenue projection of ₦724 billion, with expenditures aimed at maritime security operations and infrastructure development. Ibrahim highlighted the necessity for NIMASA to provide detailed, data-driven submissions regarding maritime safety programs and human capital development.

The committee expressed that future budget approvals would depend on transparent performance and tangible results. NIMASA's Director General, Dayo Mobereola, noted the agency's transition to a fully automated revenue collection system by 2025 and the relaunch of a financing scheme for indigenous ship firms.

Lawmakers raised concerns about the 2026 budget being considered without a comprehensive assessment of NIMASA's 2025 performance.
