Nigeria's Reps to Establish Legal Framework for Decarbonization

The Nigerian House of Representatives is working on a legal framework to support the nation's decarbonization policy as part of efforts to strengthen its climate transition agenda. The Chairman of the House Committee disclosed this during a stakeholder roundtable on the national decarbonization program in Abuja.

Although Nigeria is already operating under the Climate Change Act of 2021, the proposed national decarbonization bill is intended to complement existing initiatives and enhance the country's climate governance architecture. The bill has undergone its first and second readings and is expected to move towards public hearings by the end of the month, with plans for further engagement with stakeholders to ensure the incorporation of workable and achievable frameworks into the policy program.
