Reps Review Maritime Academy's N23.99bn Budget Proposal

The House of Representatives is currently scrutinizing the Maritime Academy of Nigeria's (MAN) budget proposal of N23.99 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. The review is led by Hon.

Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who emphasized the need for thorough evaluation to ensure accountability in the use of public funds. The maritime sector is highlighted as critical to Nigeria's economy, facilitating trade, enhancing security, and creating jobs.

Dr. Kevin Okonna, the rector of MAN, presented a breakdown of the budget, which includes N13.33 billion expected from NIMASA's statutory fund and N696.66 million from local grants.

Revenue sources also include N6.31 billion from cadet student fees and N30.17 million from service charges. The academy plans to commit N13.85 billion to capital projects, with N8.78 billion allocated for overhead costs and N1.36 billion for personnel development.

Okonna proposed these expenditures to upgrade infrastructure and expand training capacity, consolidating recent gains.
