Nigerian Lawmakers Seek Release of Detained Aircraft in Burkina Faso

Nigerian lawmakers have resolved to meet with senior officials from the ministries of defense and foreign affairs regarding the detention of a Nigerian aircraft and its personnel in Burkina Faso. The aircraft, a Nigerian Air Force C-130, made a precautionary landing in Burkina Faso on December 8, 2025, for routine maintenance.

Lawmakers stressed the importance of prompt government intervention to ensure the release of the aircraft and personnel. The House also called for factual public briefings to counter misinformation and safeguard diplomatic relations.

The motion mandates relevant agencies to address the security concerns and report back to the House within two weeks.
