Reps Call for Streamlined HIV, Malaria Grant Implementation

On Friday, during an oversight visit in Abuja, the House of Representatives' committee on infectious diseases, chaired by Amobi Ogah, urged for the streamlining of the implementation of grants aimed at controlling HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria. The committee emphasized the need for principal recipients of the Global Fund grants, including the Institute of Human Virology, Family Health International (FHI360), and Catholic Relief Services, to coordinate their efforts effectively to combat these infectious diseases.

Ogah highlighted the importance of mobilizing resources judiciously and ensuring accountability in the expenditure of these funds. He stated that the committee would no longer tolerate the usual business practices of recipients and reiterated the necessity for them to submit implementation plans for parliamentary approval.

Additionally, he mandated quarterly reports on activities to ensure transparency in the management of the Global Fund grants.
