Reps' Panel Demands Plans for HIV, TB Control Grants

The House of Representatives' committee on infectious diseases, chaired by Amobi Ogah, has emphasized the need for periodic implementation plans to effectively manage the control of HIV and tuberculosis (TB) in Nigeria. The committee is also set to resume investigations into the alleged misappropriation of $4.6 billion in grants intended for these health initiatives, which were provided by the Global Fund and USAID for the period from 2021 to 2025.

The committee plans to request submissions of implementation plans from principal recipients and implementing partners of the Global Fund grants. The Nigerian Parliament has previously approved the commendation of the Global Fund and international partners for their support.

The committee expects to receive quarterly reports on the activities of the principal recipients and sub-recipients involved in these health programs.
