NARD Issues Two-Week Strike Notice to Federal Government
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the Federal Government a two-week ultimatum to resolve outstanding welfare and professional issues affecting its members, warning that failure to do so could lead to industrial action. This notice was issued during NARD's 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Calabar, where NARD National President Dr Emmanuel Ogar read the resolutions.
The association expressed dissatisfaction with the slow implementation of previous agreements, highlighting issues such as remuneration, career progression, excessive workload, and manpower shortages. NARD called for immediate action on these matters, including the implementation of agreements regarding improved conditions of service and professional development.
The association also urged the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to address the migration of medical professionals, which has exacerbated manpower shortages. Additionally, NARD demanded better infrastructure, adequate medical equipment, and improved working conditions in health institutions to enhance patient safety and healthcare delivery.
