NARD Suspends Nationwide Strike After FG Agreement

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) announced the suspension of its planned indefinite nationwide strike following a meeting with the Federal Government (FG) on April 26. The decision was made after high-level engagements with government officials and stakeholders in the health sector.

NARD's President, Mohammad Suleiman, and Secretary-General, Shuaibu Ibrahim, signed a communiqué detailing the agreement. The FG has committed to addressing outstanding salary arrears and has reversed its decision on the implementation of a professional review.

The government is expected to effect these changes starting in April, with a focus on the payment of 19 months of outstanding arrears. Additionally, the FG has initiated the process for the disbursement of the 2026 medical residency training fund.

NARD has expressed concerns regarding delays in salary payments and has called for urgent stakeholder meetings to ensure compliance with the agreements reached.
