NARD Declares Indefinite Strike Starting April 7, 2026

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced an indefinite nationwide strike set to commence at 12:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. This decision follows the federal government's failure to implement a revised professional agreement that was supposed to enhance the remuneration package for resident doctors.

NARD President Dr. Ibrahim described the situation as unfortunate, accusing the federal government of pushing doctors towards industrial action. The crisis stems from the government's plan to halt the implementation of the agreement, which was expected to begin in January 2026 but has been delayed to February.

NARD alleges that the government's decision to discontinue the implementation in April violates previous agreements and undermines trust. The union demands the reversal of this decision and the settlement of outstanding entitlements owed to resident doctors.

Dr. Ibrahim urged members to remain united during the industrial action.
