Retired Anglican Archdeacon Emmanuel Ajayi Dies at 86

Emmanuel Ajayi, a retired Anglican Archdeacon, died at the age of 86 on June 4, 2026, at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Lokoja, Kogi State. His son, Omeiza Ajayi, confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, describing his father as a devoted servant of God who faithfully completed his mission during a 41-year ministry career.

Ajayi served in several dioceses across Nigeria and beyond, including Lagos, Zambia, Kwara, Ondo, and Kogi State, and worked under seven Anglican bishops. He was recognized for his dedication to evangelism, church growth, and Christian unity, and played a key role in establishing congregations in various communities.

Ajayi also held leadership positions in Christian associations and promoted cooperation among different Christian denominations. He was a musicologist and pianist, serving as a diocesan chaplain, choir master, and organist.

He retired in 2010 but remained active in ministry. Funeral activities are scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026, with the service taking place on June 12 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Ihima.
