BOUESTI Pensioners Seek Governor's Help for Unpaid Pensions

Retired academics and non-academic staff of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), have made an urgent appeal to Governor Biodun Oyebanji regarding their worsening pension ordeal. In a letter dated September 7, 2026, the BOUESTI Pensioners Association, represented by Chairman Dr Kola Ajaja and Public Relations Officer Mr Alao Odeyemi, highlighted that many retirees have not received their August 2026 pension and only 50% of their July pension, leading to significant financial distress.

The association claims that the university management owes pensioners outstanding gratuities and arrears related to the new minimum wage and the 20 to 28% pension increment, as well as failing to implement the 2019 consequential pension adjustment. The pensioners expressed their preference for dialogue over public protests, believing in the governor's commitment to their welfare, and urged for immediate payment of all outstanding entitlements to prevent further hardship and loss of life among their ranks.
