Retiring Officer Urges FG to Improve Pension System

Mrs. Maria Nkereuwem Etukudoh, a retiring senior pension officer in the Federal Civil Service, called on the Federal Government to prioritize the retirement benefits of retired workers during her retirement reception in Abuja.

After 25 years of service, she described the experiences of many pensioners as heartbreaking, emphasizing the need for urgent reforms in pension administration and improved welfare for public servants. Etukudoh noted that many pensioners face dire situations, sometimes waiting outside offices for their entitlements.

She acknowledged the government's efforts to improve pension administration, including plans to enhance contribution rates and strengthen exit benefit schemes. However, she attributed many challenges to poor working conditions and inadequate office facilities.

Etukudoh urged her successors to treat retirees with compassion and dignity, highlighting the importance of emotional and physical support for pensioners, as every worker will eventually become a pensioner.
