Ezekwesili Urges Tinubu to Address Attacks on Nigerians

Former Minister Obi Ezekwesili has called on President Bola Tinubu to cut short his foreign trip to France, Kenya, and Rwanda and return to Nigeria to address the recent killings and attacks on Nigerians in South Africa. Ezekwesili criticized Tinubu's absence during this crisis, describing the government's response as inadequate and merely routine diplomatic statements.

She emphasized that the Nigerian state does not value the lives and dignity of its citizens, whether at home or abroad. Ezekwesili demanded that the Nigerian government compel the South African government to publish a full account of the attacks, including injuries, deaths, and business losses, and to ensure justice for victims.

She also called for the strengthening of consular protection systems for Nigerians abroad and urged Tinubu to leverage Nigeria's historical role in the anti-apartheid struggle to compel action from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Ezekwesili concluded by highlighting the government's failure to protect Nigerians abroad and the need for immediate action.
