Obi Challenges Tinubu on Revenue and Debt Management

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and member of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, has demanded accountability from President Bola Tinubu's government regarding the country's financial management. Obi pointed out that while the government's revenue increased from N16.8 trillion in 2022 to a projected N35 trillion in 2025, the national debt has also surged to N200 trillion, marking an increase of N100 trillion within the last three years.

He expressed concern that despite the rise in revenue, there has been no improvement in the living conditions of Nigerians. Obi highlighted alarming socio-economic indicators, including a rise in multidimensional poverty, which affects 87 million people in 2023 and is projected to reach 140 million by 2025.

He called for greater transparency in the management of public resources and urged the government to provide detailed explanations regarding the utilization of borrowed funds.
