SERAP Urges Tinubu to Reverse Unlawful Passport Fee Hike - Citizens' Rights at Stake

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) called on President Bola Tinubu to reverse the recent arbitrary and excessive increase in international passport fees by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The NIS announced a significant fee hike effective September 1, 2025, affecting passport applications within Nigeria.

SERAP criticized the fee increment as discriminatory and a denial of citizenship rights to millions of vulnerable Nigerians. The organization emphasized the financial burden this places on economically disadvantaged citizens.

SERAP urged Tinubu to intervene and ensure fair access to passports for all Nigerians.
