SERAP Urges Reversal of Discriminatory Passport Fee Hike

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) demanded the reversal of the recent arbitrary and excessive increase in passport fees in Nigeria. SERAP called on President Bola Tinubu to instruct the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi, and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, to immediately reverse the fee hike.

The organization criticized the fee hike as discriminatory towards millions of socially and economically vulnerable Nigerians, hindering their access to passports and citizenship rights. SERAP highlighted the financial burden on disadvantaged Nigerians and emphasized the violation of constitutional and human rights obligations.

The call for fee reversal aims to ensure equal access to passports for all Nigerian citizens.
