Misinformation Threatens Nigeria's 2027 Elections Credibility

The Centre for Crisis Communication, represented by Chairman Chri Olukolad, has raised alarms regarding the increasing misinformation that threatens the credibility of Nigeria's 2027 general elections. A report presented in Abuja highlighted the rapid spread of false information linked to political divisions and insecurity, particularly through digital platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.

The Centre plans to establish a national crisis communication hub aimed at improving coordination in information management during emergencies. This hub will operate independently and involve multiple stakeholders, including government institutions, media organizations, and civil society groups, to ensure accurate information dissemination.

The report emphasizes the need for proactive measures to safeguard public trust and national stability, especially as political activity intensifies leading up to the elections. The Centre also recommends stronger fact-checking systems and greater public awareness to help citizens resist misinformation.
