Rivers United, Shooting Stars Earn $100k from CAF

Rivers United and Shooting Stars will each receive a $100,000 consolation payment from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following their early exits from the 2026/27 continental competitions. CAF announced this solidarity payment during the draws for the preliminary rounds in August, aimed at supporting participating teams and enhancing engagement in inter-club competitions.

Rivers United was eliminated from the CAF Champions League by San Pedro of Ivory Coast, with the aggregate score ending 3-3, leading to their exit on the away-goals rule. In the first leg, Rivers United drew 1-1 in Ivory Coast, but in the return leg, they fell two goals behind before a late comeback.

Meanwhile, Shooting Stars could not advance in the CAF Confederation Cup after losing their first-leg advantage against CS Sfaxien in Tunisia, where they were defeated 2-0 after leading 1-0 from the first leg in Abeokuta.
