Rivers Assembly Probes Alleged Oil Spill Negligence Impacting Gokana Communities

The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated an investigation into claims of oil spill negligence by Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, impacting communities in Gokana Local Government Area. The spill, which occurred on May 7, 2025, along the Ogal-Bomu pipeline, resulted in environmental destruction, vegetation loss, water pollution, and economic disruption.

Despite the damage, the company allegedly failed to adequately compensate the affected communities. The Assembly aims to hold the company accountable for environmental damage, ensure compensation for affected residents, and oversee proper cleanup efforts.
