Court Adjourns Suit Against Tinubu and Others Over Rivers Emergency Rule - Legal Clarity Sought

The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has scheduled October 13, 2025, to hear a suit filed by the civil society organization, Initiative for Freedom and Conflict Prevention Social Integration (FREECON), against President Bola Tinubu and others regarding the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State. FREECON is challenging the appointment of a Sole Administrator in Rivers State and the authority to appoint the Chairman and members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

The court will determine the constitutionality of these appointments and the powers vested in the retired Vice Admiral Ibas. The case aims to clarify the legal framework governing such appointments in the state.
