Governor Wike Asserts Authority Amidst Political Tensions in Rivers State

Governor Wike of Rivers State made a bold declaration asserting his authority amidst ongoing political tensions with his estranged political godson, Siminalayi Fubara. The power struggle began with rifts within the Rivers State House of Assembly, leading to Fubara's suspension and the imposition of emergency rule by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025.

Despite the lifting of the emergency rule, tensions persist, with pro-Wike lawmakers threatening to impeach the governor over alleged unconstitutional conduct. Wike has been mobilizing political support, including from across party lines, to counter Fubara's recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor has also accused the Rivers State government of obstructing his events, highlighting the deepening rift. Wike praised President Tinubu's leadership, particularly in reforming the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
