Rivers introduces menstrual health into school curriculum

The Rivers State Ministry of Education has introduced menstrual health education into the school curriculum in secondary schools. Dr. Chinedu Nwaodu, the Director of Quality Assurance, unveiled a book titled "Periods, Pads, Proud" in Port Harcourt, the state capital, emphasizing the importance of educating girls about menstrual health.

The initiative aims to equip schools with the necessary facilities to educate girls and urges parents and teachers to take menstrual health seriously. Nwaodu highlighted the need for teachers to monitor and ensure that the curriculum is effectively implemented.

Youth advocate Elizabeth Aderonke Odukoya, founder of EmpowerHer Project, called for federal, state, and local authorities to integrate menstrual health education nationwide. The project, supported by a network of 60 volunteers, aims to raise awareness about the significance of menstrual health.
