Rivers State Government Closes 21 Illegal Health Facilities

The Rivers State Government has shut down 21 health facilities for allegedly operating without proper registration and failing to meet minimum standards set by the Ministry of Health. This enforcement action, disclosed by Dr Vincent Wachukwu, the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, occurred during a press briefing on October 6.
The operation was conducted by a task force supported by security operatives, following reports that over 150 facilities were unregistered across five local government areas: Port Harcourt City, Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, Etche, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni. Of the 21 facilities closed, 19 were unregistered, and one registered facility was found to be operating below required standards.
The affected facilities included eight hospitals, five maternity homes, and eight diagnostic centers. Notably, Manda Hospital was linked to suspected child trafficking, while Havilla Hospital was operated by an individual claiming to be a doctor without a valid license.
Three individuals were arrested for prosecution related to these illegal operations.
