Rotary District Governor-Elect in Nigeria Prioritizes Technology and Service for Organizational Growth

Sikiru Adetona Owonikoko, the District Governor-Elect of Rotary International District 9127 for the 2026-2027 Rotary year, emphasized the importance of technology adoption, discipline, and service in his upcoming leadership role. Owonikoko highlighted the need for Rotary to respond to global changes by prioritizing technology adoption, organizational discipline, and community-focused service. He aims to leverage technology as a key tool to expand membership and increase participation, emphasizing that physical presence should no longer be a barrier to engagement.

Owonikoko stressed the significance of discipline within the organization, stating that it is central to efficiency and public perception. He believes that discipline creates order and improves Rotary's operations, shaping how the organization is perceived by the public. Owonikoko also addressed misconceptions around Rotary membership, particularly regarding costs, emphasizing that Rotary's impact is driven by collective contributions rather than individual wealth.

Ijeoma Okoro, who attended the first formal training session under District Governor-Elect Owonikoko, highlighted the focus on membership growth, foundation activities, and project implementation during the training. The district covers 16 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and is one of the largest in Nigeria. Princess Joi Okoro, the current District Governor of District 9127, emphasized the importance of leadership training and support for incoming governors to effectively manage district affairs.
