Group Demands NAFDAC Director's Removal Over Alcohol Ban

The civil society group Concern Citizen Change held a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, criticizing the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and calling for the immediate removal of its Director General, Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye. The group, led by Executive Director Stephen Eriba, accused Adeyeye of gross incompetence and abuse of office in enforcing a ban on sachet alcohol and small PET bottle alcohol products.

Eriba described the enforcement as arbitrary and illegal, arguing that it contravenes existing national policy frameworks. He stated that the ban violates provisions of the national alcohol policy approved by the Federal Ministry of Health and disregards a presidential directive to halt enforcement pending a review by a joint committee.

The group warned that the ban could negatively impact businesses, jobs, and government revenue while increasing the circulation of illicit, unregulated alcohol products. They urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take action against Adeyeye, stating that her continued position is no longer in the public interest.
