Protesters Demand NAFDAC Boss's Removal Over Alcohol Ban

On Thursday, protesters besieged the Federal Ministry of Health in Abuja, calling for the immediate removal of Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The demonstrators accused Adeyeye of gross incompetence and abusing public office by unlawfully enforcing a ban on 200ml sachet alcohol beverages.

They argued that this ban contradicts existing national policies and expressed concerns that it would lead to widespread job losses and disrupt livelihoods across the value chain, potentially triggering civil unrest amid economic challenges. Kingsley Nwanz, the group's director, stated that the enforcement was hasty and violated national alcohol policy.

The protesters emphasized that regulatory actions should be evidence-based rather than driven by sentiment and concluded by urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action against Adeyeye, asserting that her continued tenure is no longer in the public interest.
