Protesters Challenge NAFDAC's Sachet Alcohol Ban

On Wednesday, protesters from the Rebirth Nigeria Movement staged a demonstration in Abuja against the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and its Director General, Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye. The protest was led by National Coordinator Comrade Okwut and focused on the agency's enforcement of a ban on 200ml sachet alcohol beverages.

The demonstrators accused Adeyeye of gross incompetence and abusing public office in relation to the agency's alcohol policy implementation. They described the ban as illegal and arbitrary, arguing that it contradicts existing provisions of national alcohol policy and disregards a presidential directive to halt further disruptions affecting businesses.

The protesters warned that the ban would negatively impact jobs across the alcohol product value chain, especially during a time when the federal government is promoting economic reform under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda. They emphasized the need for regulatory oversight while maintaining that the ban threatens consumer choice and local manufacturers' survival.
