South African Police Find Ninth Woman's Body, Nigerians Alerted

On September 18, South African police recovered the body of a ninth woman east of Johannesburg, raising concerns over a series of deaths that have prompted the Nigerian Consulate-General in Johannesburg to issue a safety advisory for Nigerians in the affected areas. The advisory, dated September 16, noted that eight women had been reported dead over approximately two months in and around Ekurhuleni, with police investigating the cases.

Deputy Police Chief Tebello Mosikili stated that a lockdown was imposed in Kempton Park, with roadblocks established following the discovery of three partially naked bodies. A reward of 400,000 rand ($25,000) was offered for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator(s).

Investigators have identified "concerning similarities" among the cases but have not confirmed the involvement of a serial killer. One victim, 38-year-old Elizabeth Moselakgomo, went missing while jogging and was found dead on September 12.

The first victim was discovered on July 15, with a suspect arrested shortly after.
