Sahara Power Invests $12M in Lagos Power Plant

Sahara Power Enterprise Group has commenced the construction of a 12-megawatt gas-fired Independent Power Plant at the Ogba Undertaking of Ikeja Electric Plc in Lagos, with an investment of $12 million. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday, and the project is anticipated to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

The plant will consist of six 2MW gas-fired units and is designed to improve electricity supply to businesses and communities in Ogba, Acme Road, Wemco Road, and surrounding areas. Kola Adesina, Group Managing Director of Sahara Power, emphasized the project’s significance in addressing Nigeria's power sector challenges and enhancing economic growth.

The plant will utilize modern gas-powered generation technology and include standby capacity for maintenance periods. Ogochukwu Onyelucheya, Acting CEO of Ikeja Electric, praised the project as a strategic investment for improving electricity reliability.

Cummins will oversee the construction, leveraging its expertise in power generation.
