Africa Gas Transport and Energy Ventures to Convert Flaring Gas

Africa Gas Transport Company Limited, in partnership with Dutch clean-energy company Energy Ventures B.V, is set to deploy technology to capture Nigeria's routinely flared gas, converting it into liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and electricity for local consumers. Herbert Okibe, CEO of Energy Ventures B.V, announced this initiative during a project site visit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The project aims to address the 60 years of gas flaring in Nigeria, which has led to significant environmental pollution and health issues among residents. The site currently flares about 5 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.

Okibe noted that this project is part of a broader effort to convert wasted gas into sustainable energy. The initiative has received support from the Dutch government and the Nigerian government, including backing from President Bola Tinubu's administration through the Petroleum Industry Act.

The project has secured necessary approvals, including an Environmental Impact Assessment from the Federal Ministry of Environment and a license from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
