Seun Kuti Criticizes Afrobeats Artists for Comparing Themselves to Fela Kuti

Maverick singer Seun Kuti has warned contemporary Afrobeats artists against likening themselves to his father, the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti. He expressed disapproval of artists sampling Fela's music and claiming to be the modern-day equivalent of Fela.

Seun Kuti highlighted that sampling Fela's work does not elevate artists to the same status as the music legend. Several artists, including Wizkid, Burna Boy, Bella Shmurda, Portable, and Olamide, have faced criticism for drawing comparisons to Fela.

Kuti's remarks were made on a recent episode of the "Don't Lie" podcast.
