Sanwo-Olu Marks 2,579 Days in Office, Focuses on Growth

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, delivered a keynote address at the Geoeconomic Optim Summit 2026 organized by the Citadel Global Community Church, where he stated he has begun counting his remaining days in office, with 343 days left until his term ends on May 29, 2027. Sanwo-Olu reflected on his stewardship since assuming office on May 29, 2019, and reiterated his commitment to finishing strong.

He emphasized Lagos's unique position as a significant economic contributor to Nigeria, accounting for roughly one-third of the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and being Africa's second-largest metropolitan economy. The governor highlighted several landmark projects, including the Lekki Deep Sea Port and Dangote Refinery, which bolster Lagos's status as a geoeconomic hub.

He also noted the state's role in technological innovation and cultural influence, particularly in Nollywood and the creative industries, while acknowledging the challenges posed by rapid urbanization.
