Sanwo-Olu to Receive Global Governance Prize in 2026

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, has been awarded the 2026 Global Transformation and Good Governance Prize by the Millennium Excellence Award USA. This announcement was made in a letter from the Board of Directors of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, recognizing the developmental progress achieved in Lagos State under Sanwo-Olu’s leadership.

The award will be conferred under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene of Kumasi, during a ceremony at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., on August 29, 2026. The event will commence with a red carpet at 2:30 p.m.

Sanwo-Olu is expected to deliver a keynote address focusing on attracting diaspora investment into Lagos State's urban infrastructure and finance. He will also engage in discussions aimed at strengthening economic ties with the diaspora.

The recognition reflects his contributions to Lagos State's development, joining past laureates like Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Dr. Kofi Annan.
