Sanwo-Olu to Receive Global Governance Prize in 2026

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been selected to receive the 2026 Global Transformation and Good Governance Prize from the Millennium Excellence Award USA. This decision was made by the Board of Directors of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, which noted Sanwo-Olu's significant contributions to the development of Lagos State during his tenure.

The award will be presented under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene of Kumasi, who will attend the ceremony alongside Her Royal Highness Lady Julia, Queen Consort. The event is scheduled for August 29, 2026, at the Warner Theatre in Washington D.C., starting with a red carpet at 2:30 p.m.

Sanwo-Olu is expected to deliver a keynote address focusing on Lagos State's positioning as Africa's largest sub-national economy and its efforts to attract investment. He will also engage in discussions aimed at enhancing economic and social ties with diaspora communities.

Notable past laureates include Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Dr. Kofi Annan.
