Mustapha Claims Saraki Backs Tinubu's Re-election Bid

Saliu Mustapha, the senator representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, has alleged that former Senate President Bukola Saraki is backing President Bola Tinubu's second-term bid, despite Saraki's leadership role in the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State. Mustapha, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, made this statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He secured the PDP ticket for the Kwara Central senatorial seat after his defection. Mustapha acknowledged Saraki as the PDP leader but clarified that Saraki is not seeking any elective position in 2027 and is supporting the "Rainbow Coalition" aimed at enhancing Tinubu's re-election chances.

He indicated that his defection was part of a collective decision by several political groups in Kwara, driven by grievances against the APC's governorship nomination process. Mustapha's comments reflect the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition members expressing support for Tinubu while remaining within their party structures.
