Saraki's Alleged Support for Tinubu's 2027 Campaign Revealed

Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central, alleged that former Senate President Bukola Saraki is working to ensure President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027, despite Saraki's leadership role in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State. Mustapha made these claims during an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today on August 21, 2026, shortly after defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, where he secured the party's ticket for the Kwara Central senatorial seat.

He described Saraki's support for the "Rainbow Coalition" and compared it to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike's position within the Tinubu administration. Mustapha emphasized that his PDP membership does not equate to opposition against the President.

He stated that Saraki is not contesting any position in 2027, which he believes is significant for understanding Saraki's current political stance. Mustapha's defection was part of a collective move involving various groups in Kwara, driven by grievances against Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's leadership and the emergence of Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as the APC governorship candidate.
